Solid Modeling is the 3-dimensioanl digital representation of an existing or envisioned object's volume; not just its lines and surfaces. A true solid model opens the door to a wide variety of processing capabilities such as stereolithography rapid prototyping, model rendering, interference detection, stress analysis, thermal anaylsis, vibration analysis, structural analysis, and part optimization. You can also easily extract physical data such as part volume, mass, and center of gravity.

One of the principal benefits to solid models is the ability to test and assemble components and assemblies virtually ensuring easier manufacture of the final product. Additionally a solid model can be used to to optimize product design for robustness, manufacturing, and cost reduction. Solid Modeling is very effective in prototype design as it allows for critical decisions to be made and subsequently revised early in product development, preventing the exponentially higher costs for changes made late in a product's lifecycle.

Gill Incorporated Design Solutions utilizes the latest CAD/CAM/CAE/PLM technology to parametrically define the properties of solid models. With defined physical properties including surface texture, density, rigidity, color; spatial relationships such as distance from adjacent components, and angular position the model can be used to create engineering drawings for manufacturing or displayed photorealistically for marketing purposes and instruction manuals.
